Graduate degrees are conferred by the Board of Trustees in August,
February, and May. The deadlines to apply for graduation and submit
degree requirements are published in the
Graduate Student Handbook.
Commencement occurs annually in May. Detailed information can be
found on the
Commencement website; updates are made regularly as
the event approaches. All students scheduled to graduate in May,
and those who graduated the previous February and August are
invited to attend.
All graduate degree candidates:
Apply to graduate in
using the "Academics" dropdown. Enter or update your
diploma name and diploma mailing address. Print the "Application for Graduation" PDF,
complete the student section, and obtain the required department signatures.
Submit the signed original form to Student Services in Dowling Hall.
Candidates will receive an email from the Office of Institutional Research
with a personal link to the Graduate Exit Survey approximately 6 weeks before
graduation. Completion of this survey is a graduation requirement
and responses are confidential.
Students completing a thesis or dissertation:
Submit your thesis/dissertation online to
requirements and guidelines can be found in the Graduate Student
Handbook; please also refer to the
sample title pages.
Submit the required defense paperwork (linked below). Signed
original forms are submitted to Student Services in Dowling
Hall; electronic signatures are only acceptable for committee
members who were not physically present at the defense (see
Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED) online. Save a copy of
the certificate of completion for your records. SED information
including purpose and confidentiality can be found
here. The SED is
not required for OTD candidates.
Recommendation for Award of a Certificate form, obtain
the certificate advisor's signature, and submit to Student Services in Dowling Hall.
