Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant Assessment Guidelines
Teaching
Assistant Assessment Guidelines: Graduate School of Arts and
Sciences
The skills and training acquired as a Teaching Assistant (TA) depend
on faculty mentoring, feedback, and assessment. Faculty members
supervising TAs should clearly define assistants' responsibilities
at the beginning of the assistantship and provide feedback on how
those responsibilities are being met. Feedback identifies TA
strengths, encourages performance improvement, as well as prevents,
mitigates, or helps resolve academic disputes. Guidelines have been
established by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences regarding
assessment of teaching assistants.

Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant Assessment Guidelines:
School of Engineering
The performance evaluation of teaching (TA) and research (RA)
assistants is important to provide feedback for mentoring, document
and address cases of unsatisfactory performance, and to resolve
academic disputes. While TA and RA performance assessment procedures
vary widely across the School of Engineering, at a minimum they
should include the components described in the Teaching Assistant
and Research Assistant Assessment guidelines.
