How to Apply
Our online application can be used to apply to any of the
graduate or certificate programs offered by the Graduate School of
Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering, except studio art
(M.F.A.). Go to Embark.com
to apply. Studio art applicants should go to
www.smfa.edu and
apply using the online M.F.A. application. Separate applications
(including fees) are required if you
apply to more than one graduate program.

Applications to all graduate and certificate programs include:
- Application for admission
- Scanned copies of all college transcripts
- Letters of Recommendation: One for certificate programs, two
for the engineering management program, and three for all other
degree programs.
- Résumé
- Personal statement elaborating on your reasons for wanting
to pursue graduate study at Tufts
- Application fee of $75* (non-refundable)
All materials (with the exception of test scores) should be submitted electronically.
*The application fee is waived only for
current Tufts undergraduate and graduate students, students in Tufts
certificate programs, Project 1000 applicants, City Year Corp members,
GEM fellows, and IRT, Leadership Alliance, and McNair Scholars.
Gordon Institute M.S.E.M. applicants
who attend an information session will be granted a fee waiver.
No other fee waivers are considered.
All programs require a bachelor's degree. See the
application
requirements for individual programs (.pdf) for additional requirements,
and submit the following if applicable:
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
scores* (use Tufts University code 3901)
- Test of English as a Foreign Language
(TOEFL) scores (use
Tufts University code 3901) or the International English
Language Testing System (IELTS) scores.*
- Writing sample
- If you are applying to the M.A.T. in Art Education, you must
submit an electronic portfolio of your most recent work. Please
review the portfolio requirements
here.
*Photocopies and student copies of scores are not accepted.
If you are currently enrolled as a Tufts undergraduate or are a
current Tufts
certificate student applying to a master's or doctoral program:
Materials submitted in support of your application must be accurate.
Any information determined to be erroneous or incomplete may cause a
student's association with Tufts to be immediately terminated. All
materials submitted in support of an application become the property
of Tufts University, and neither originals nor copies of this
material will be returned or sent to a third party.
Credentials received without an application form and fee are
retained for only three months from date of receipt.
