American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA): Regular Student Fellowship: Annual program to provide support for graduate students in classical and ancient Mediterranean studies and related fields who have, preferentially, completed at least one year of grad work. Fellowships available in archaeology, history and literature, art history and other fields. Graduate expected to be able to read French, German, ancient Greek and Latin as well as have a reading knowledge of modern Greek and Italian.

Bessel, Friedrich Wilhelm Research Award: The objective of the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award Program is to attract top young researchers who are already recognized as outstanding specialists in their area to engage in cooperative research efforts with specialists in Germany over a longer period of time. Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Awards are granted to acknowledge previous work conducted in the research area. Recipients are invited to carry out their own research projects in Germany in cooperation with colleagues working in the same area. Top young researchers from abroad can be nominated who, as proven specialists in their fields, are especially in demand by German researchers.

DAAD-AICGS Grant: This fellowship is available to assist doctoral candidates, recent Ph.D.s and junior faculty working on topics dealing with postwar Germany. The grant provides funds for summer residency at the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS).

Fulbright Grant: A basic to good proficiency in German will be helpful. Grants are given for approximately 10 months beginning in September (or in August if an additional language course is offered in Germany). Applications will be considered from well-qualified candidates in all fields. The Fulbright Commission especially encourages applications in engineering; law and business; natural, life and environmental sciences; media and communication studies; and social sciences.

German Chancellor Scholarship: U.S. citizens who have completed at least a Bachelor’s Degree by the time the Programme begins are eligible to apply. Applications may come from prospective leaders in professions spanning all sectors of American society - public, private, not-for-profit, cultural, and academic (the arts and humanities, social and political studies, law, business, architecture, journalism and economics). Candidates may be no more than 34 years old at the time they enter the program.

German Studies Research Grant: This small grant program is designed to promote study of cultural, political, historical, economic and social aspects of modern and contemporary German affairs from an inter- and multi-disciplinary perspective and offers department and/or program chairs the opportunity to nominate highly qualified candidates to DAAD.

Max Planck Research Awards for International Cooperation: The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Max Planck Society jointly confer Max Planck Research Awards for International Co-operation funded by the Federal Ministry for Research and Education to non-German and German scientists in recognition of outstanding, internationally acknowledged academic achievement. The award is intended to provide a flexible financial framework for taking up, strengthening or extending research co-operation projects between non-German and German scientists to pave the way for new internationally outstanding achievements in research through long-term and intensified cooperation. Scientists nominated for this award should have experience in international cooperation.

Newberry Library Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel Fellowship: Provides an additional two-month residential fellowship in Wolfenbu"ttel, Germany. The proposed project should link the collections of both libraries; applicants should plan to hold both fellowships sequentially to insure continuity of research.

The fellowships enable young American Scientists and Scholars to conduct research for nine to eighteen months within a period of up to three years.
